Costumes of The Cam Community in Central VietnamAttire of the Cam Bani DignitariesThere is a mosque and a group of religious people known as Gru Acar in wvery villages of Cam Bani. They comprise between 10 and 25 people segregated into five rankings namely Po Gru, Imam (Ong Ma^n), khotib (Ong Katip), Muazin (Ong Madin) and Acar Jamaah. Acar Jamaah are those who have attended religious courses to qualify themselves as ulama (religious men). Like the Cam Ahiar, the Cam Bani also ave their own distinctive attire. The number of Cam Bani's dignitaries in a mosque will depend on the number of clans (suku) according to the matrilineal social system. Every clan will choose either one or two people among them to become the ulama of Cam Bani. The mosque is meant for the religious figures to perform their Friday prayers usually conducted in Arabic. The mosque is open twice a month for this purpose. However, the date of the congregational prayers are determined by Po Gru and the Iman. |
